A Royal Affair

The Beautiful Verna Fluidic 4S takes us on a journey to the heart of regal Rajasthan.

We live in an age where technology has taken over our lives - things move at a much faster pace and we depend on machines and gadgets to do things for us. But when you step foot in Udaipur, everything goes back in time. Vast expanses of fort ruins, men in turbans twirling their moustaches, women in colorful sarees walking down narrow streets and people cycling around - it feels like time has slowed down. Yes, this is Udaipur. Today! Known for its timeless luxury and rustic opulence. Udaipur remains on top of the list for all travelers and tourists as a must-visit. Udaipur is also known as the Lake City and is the historic capital of the kingdom of Mewar which became part of Rajasthan after India became independent.

One of the top tourist destinations in Rajasthan, Udaipur is best known for its royal palaces. We drove the beautiful new Hyundai Verna fluidic 4S on our drive through this culturally prosperous city. It's a magnificent reflection of India's ancient artistic and cultural traditions such as music, dance and even the rustic Indian cuisine.

We started our trip from beautiful Hotel Fateh Garh which is also known as the 'Fairy Tale Castle' since it rests upon a large hill and appears to be floating in the air. It offers breathtaking views of the city on one side and the beautiful lake Pichola on the other which is a must-see in the city. After a generous traditional meal we headed off to the next part of our trip!

Kumbhalgarh is a scenic 100km drive from Udaipur. The road involves driving through some remote parts of Rajasthan. The drive in the new Verna 4S through these old village roads was really comfortable thanks to great ride quality. The redesigned front gives the car a completely different character and turned a number of heads on the two hour long drive.

Kumbhalgarh is famous for its fort which was built in 1458 AD. It's surrounded by hundreds of temples and consists of a domed palace hidden behind long winding walls that defended series of battles and is the second longest wall after the Great Wall of China. Walking around the vast fort does make you feel like you've lost a few kilos, but it's the best way to appreciate the grandeur of this historic place. There's also a wildlife sanctuary nearby but the best time to 'visit this place is during monsoon season.

For the night, we were guests again at the Kelwa family's beautiful Fateh Safari Lodge. This lodge is situated on the edge of the Aravalli hills and offers the best view of the Merwar Plains and Kumbhalgarh fort. Built in a very appealing blend of colonial and traditional architecture, the Fateh Safari lodge features a collection of modern art in addition to some vintage cars and motorcycles.
Every visit to this place always transports you to a different time and allows you to disconnect from your everyday monotony. It's one of the few places in India where you can truly escape from it all and really get some much needed rest.
