Hyundai is Harking

Hatch back to its successful Accent, with its new Xcent compact sedan. Based on the Grand i10 hatchback, the Xcent evades looking like a 'boot lob'. The front retains the familiar Grand i10 air with a dash of chrome. A hatchback-to-sedan metamorphosis can be disastrous, but Hyundai has integrated the boot cohesively. It does look a little stubby but blends well with the lines of the car, as do the tail lights. Also commendable is the inclusion of rear AC vents and an electrically opening boot, a first in the segment. On first Impressions, the interior especially the rear leg room accommodates a bigger boot. Typical of Hyundai, there will be loads of features such as keyless entry with button start, 2-DIN audio. Steering mounted controls, electrically folding ORVMs, dual front airbags, ABS and rear parking assist. The engine options carried over from the Grand i10 are the 12-litre 84bhp Kappa petrol and the 1.1-litre 3-pot 70bhp diesel mad to either a 4-speed automatic or a 5-speed manual. The Xcent is expected to go on sale in the first quarter of 2014.
